Commenting on Blogs

After receiving Jennifer's e-mail to comment on blogs, I decided to try Allegany County's site. I read several of the blogs and commented on one. It was fun to read what others had to say about the 23 Things, and some of the blogs were really creative. I had read several from our system, and commented on one. There were quite a few with neat pictures and other additions to make the blogs attractive.

23 Things

I finally finished The 23 Things. At first it was intimidating and I thought, I'll never finish this! As time went on and Jennifer came up and helped us, things went much better. I really did learn many things about RSS feeds, Blogging, YouTube, Flickr, etc. A "techie" I'll never be, but at least I know what's out there.

And, yes, I would sign up for another program like this one. I need to learn all I can about new technology so I can help the patrons.

Project Gutenburg

I didn't spend too much time on this site, but I did search the online catalog and looked for books by Mark Twain and found many titles. I didn't download any books, but I did read several pages of Jokes for all occasions online. I still prefer a book in hand and a nice, comfortable chair!

Podcasts

I checked out the Podcast Alley and Yahoo Podcasts sites. I liked the Yahoo site better as it seemed easier to use. The book review from Book Voyages regarding children's literature was interesting and I added this to my RSS feeds.

YouTube

I watched the Hurrican Dean video on YouTube, and one on Yahoo Video. They are fun to watch, and it is instant access on your PC. For an aspiring "Walt Disney", this probably would be a great place to start practicing with homemade videos and sound tracks and get it to the public. Who knows, someone may pick it up and Voila! you're on your way to Hollywood! I suppose librarians could use this to inform the public about our services, but I'm not so sure anyone would watch it.

Web 2.0 awards list

I used the short lists of awards and I had used several of these sites while completing the 23 things. I looked at some of the others that were on the awards list and found them to be interesting too. Also, on the cover of the August 27 Newsweek there is "The Facebook Effect". In looking at the article, I think it's going to be real difficult to keep up with all the new technology. At this point, I'm glad to be involved in the 23 things program as it is helping to familiarize me with new technology.

ZoHo and Google Doc

I don't know that I would use this site for my personal use; however, I could let the patrons know it exists and that the documents are free. The more I know, the better I can instruct the patrons.
